The Jiuyanlou Great Wall is located on the main peak of the Huoyan Mountain in the north of Beijing. On the Great Wall, there are not only the ruins of the camp, but also the remaining watchtowers, which are the largest and highest-specified watchtowers in the Great Wall. The area was previously closed due to dense vegetation. After space integration and landscape design, it has been opened to the public in October 2020.
The landscape design emphasizes the use of ecological methods to reduce the hard surface, so that tourists can experience the original and natural forest wetland landscape before climbing the Great Wall.
Instead of the common walls, in the entrance area densely cypresses are planted, forming the shape of barbican. Opposite arches strengthen the axis relationship of entry. The service facilities are placed in the north of the square, and the other side extends to the pond in the south.
In the valley, the original gullies are transformed into a water network under the forest. Ecological revetment and aquatic plants are adopted to form a wetland landscape. Difference height of the water body formed the scenery of stacked streams in the forest.
Visitors can choose trails of different materials and widths, walk through the forest, accompanied by streams, and have rich visual and auditory experiences.
